Coordinators: Commitment and Expectations
Welcome to Step 3 of the application process with Apartment Life: the divisional interview! In order to prepare you for the next steps, we want to give you some very important information about what you are committing to with Apartment Life and what you can expect regarding the next steps. If you have any questions at all, please write them down and bring them to the divisional interview with your program director; they are happy to help you!
Commitments
Our mission is to see lives in apartment communities radically transformed by making Christ known. We do this by partnering with apartment communities to help them increase their resident retention rates by forming a better sense of community. When residents know their neighbors and have friends near them, they are more likely to stay and are more satisfied with where they live. Apartment Life partners with the management companies to care for the residents on a personal level, connect residents in relationships with one another through excellent events, and call others to do the same. The opportunities we have to build relationships with the residents allow us an incredible opportunity to share the gospel as we care and serve them.
Now you'll hear the next part of Apartment Life's spiritual commitment. Please watch the next video about disciplines within ministry.
1. Spiritual Commitment
Sharing Christ with others is a high calling and commitment. Apartment Life views our coordinators as missionaries serving on mission fields. As you go through the application process, we want you to consider the spiritual commitments that come with serving as a missionary. You can view a copy of our full Statement of Faith and Commitment to Biblical Living in the coordinator handbook under Step 3 of the Application Next Steps page. Approved coordinators will agree to and be held accountable to these spiritual disciplines.
Evangelism
In a personal context, employees and coordinators are committed to sharing the gospel and making disciples based on their personal calling and spiritual gifts (Matt. 28:19). Within their role and job responsibilities at Apartment Life, employees and coordinators are committed to a relational approach to ministry and agree not to promote, approve, or engage in activities that are considered "confrontational evangelism," which includes door-to-door witnessing or other evangelism outside the context of a developed relationship.
Church Participation
Each employee and coordinator should be an active member in good standing of a local, evangelical Christian church holding to the same core Biblical doctrines outlined in the Apartment Life Statement of Faith (Acts 2:42-47, Heb. 10:24-26).
Prayer
We have seen that the greatest fruit in ministry comes as a result of the work of prayer. Employees and coordinators are committed to prayer as the crucial foundation of their ministry and role (Matt. 7:7-8, James 5:16, 1 Pet. 4:7).
Servant Leadership
Employees and coordinators at Apartment Life are committed to both serving and leading. Servant leadership includes understanding that your leadership affects many people. Employees and coordinators commit to seeking out the best interests of those they serve, speaking truth in love, setting the example, standing firm in faith and in the decisions God has called them to make, and guiding their team towards Christ and his ways (Phil. 2:1-4, Eph. 4:15-16, 1 Pet. 1:3-9, 1 Tim. 4:12, 1 Pet. 5:2-3, 5b-6, 1 John 4:7, 1 Cor. 16:13, Josh. 1:9, Eph. 4:1-3, Gal. 6:9-10, John 10:14, Mark 10:43-45).
2. Relational Commitments
As those serving with Apartment Life and ambassadors of Jesus Christ, it is critical that we each commit to a standard of biblical living in order to glorify God as we pursue our mission of making Him known; which includes having integrity in our relationships.
Jesus
Employees and coordinators are committed to growing in an abiding relationship with Jesus Christ. Their highest priorities are daily personal worship and obedience as they seek to know him and become more like him. We desire that you primarily serve out of the overflow and vitality of your personal relationship with Jesus. This filling comes through time spent with the Lord (John 4:13-14, John 10:10, John 15:5, 9-12, Eph. 5:17).
Family
Employees and coordinators recognize the importance of healthy family and interpersonal relationships. Marriage, children, and family are all precious to the Lord and gifts to us from him (Eph. 5:31-33, Psalm 127:3-5, Rom. 12:10). They remain committed to being wholly present and growing in their family roles.
Marriage
Married employees and coordinators are committed to upholding and investing in the most important earthly relationship they have: their marriage (Eph. 5:31-33). They will protect that relationship by maintaining upright relationships with residents and clients and holding to the standards set forth in God's word regarding marriage, which Apartment Life defines as the union between one man and one woman (Gen. 2:18-24, Matt. 19: 4-6, 1 Cor. 7:2). They commit to the time, energy, and personal sacrifice to love, honor, and remain married to their spouse.
Sexual Purity
Both married and single employees and coordinators are expected to hold to the biblical standards of sexual purity, integrity of the mind, and holiness in all that they see and act on (1 Cor. 6:19-20, 1 Cor. 7:2-9).
Unity
Employees and coordinators see themselves as vital members of a unified team in the work of Apartment Life. They seek to maintain healthy and productive relationships with other employees. They commit to using their gifts as they are called within their role at Apartment Life. We serve and change together within our organization, and we value communication and open feedback from one another. We strive to be like-minded, have the same love, and be one in spirit and purpose (Phil. 2:2).
Apartment Life Leaders + Property Management
Employees and coordinators commit to regular open and collaborative relationships within Apartment Life and specifically with their leaders. As you build relationships with the property management at your community, it is important to visit the office regularly, be a joyful servant, be a model resident/abide by the rules of the community, honor the manager, and offer excellence, as you are an ambassador for Christ.
Commitment to Excellence
Apartment Life has an aspirational value of excellence. Because we work to serve the Lord (Col. 3:23), we desire to be excellent in the ways we serve our communities and residents. We primarily focus on being excellent in 3 main areas:
Attitude: We are cheerful, grateful, and gracious toward everyone, even when they are negative.
Communication: Our communication with everyone is warm, proactive, personal, and timely (same day whenever possible, or within 24 hours as a standard).
Experience: We consistently meet expectations in a timely manner and, when possible, surprise residents and management by going the extra mile.
Expectations
You are currently in Step 3 of the application process, but what's next? Check out the infographic for an overview.
Divisional Interview: This should take place 1-2 weeks following the phone interview. The divisional interview typically lasts 1.5-2 hours, is conducted during standard business hours (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.), and will be conducted via video. Please dress as if you are going to a job interview and be in a space that is free from noise and distractions. As part of your time together, you and your divisional contact will make the final determination of whether Apartment Life is the right fit for you.
Offer + Background Check: If you are approved after the divisional interview, your talent acquisition specialist will reach out with an offer for you to pray about. Please do NOT go into the community office to speak with the management or tour the community. We encourage you to drive around the area and pray. You’ll get an opportunity to check it out in person once you are approved! Please respond to the offer within 72 hours.
Community Interview: If you are living onsite, you will have a final interview with the property manager. This typically happens within 2 weeks, but it all depends on the availability of the interviewers (and you!).
*Please remember that you are still in the application process until you are hired. If you have any questions about the information shared above, please write them down and bring them to your divisional interview to discuss with your program director.
