Using your dinner table for ministry

Make your home a safe place for discussion.

There's something extra personal about inviting someone into your home and sharing a meal with them. It communicates that you think that person is important and worthy of attention. It doesn't have to be fancy - just welcoming.

“No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.”

—1 JOHN 4:12 (NIV)

Tips for simple hospitality:

  1. Don't wait until your home is perfect. Just start inviting people.
  2. Discuss the "why" with your family before-hand.
  3. Make a list of people to invite.
  4. Build margin in your schedule for last-minute invitations.
  5. Find one or two meals you can throw together easily. We have created a Pinterest board with easy recipes you can make ahead of time so that you can focus on your guests instead of the meal.

Whether you're walking through this study individually or as a group, take a moment to process by asking yourself these questions:

  • Who is someone you and your family would like to invite into your home?
  • Hospitality requires creating margin in your schedule. What things are currently filling your schedule that might need to be switched around so that you can make room to host?
  • Write out your “why” and place it somewhere that reminds you of why you are choosing to live this way.

Love God, and love your neighbor.

Apartment Life believes that a community can be radically transformed when people intentionally invest in the lives of neighbors and build authentic relationships through service.

It's that simple.

We partner with an apartment community’s management team to deliver the Apartment Life program. We  have the opportunity to  build community and serve residents by doing things that flow naturally out of the Christian lifestyle — welcoming new neighbors, planning social functions, and caring in times of need.

Together we can change the lives of people living in apartment communities, and one person at a time, we can change the world.
